Miradouros of Lisbon: The Best Viewpoints in the City

6/25/2026

One of the most unforgettable experiences you can have in Lisbon is standing at the edge of a miradouro and taking in the sweeping views of the city below. Scattered throughout the hills of Lisbon, these miradouros—or viewpoints—offer spectacular vistas of terracotta rooftops, historic neighborhoods, and the shimmering Tagus River. Whether you're a photographer, a romantic, or just someone who appreciates a good view, the miradouros of Lisbon are not to be missed.

Here’s a guide to some of the most iconic—and some lesser-known—miradouros to add to your Lisbon itinerary:

1. Miradouro da Senhora do Monte

Perched on one of Lisbon’s highest hills, this viewpoint offers arguably the best panoramic view in the city. From here, you can see everything from the Castle of São Jorge to the 25 de Abril Bridge. It’s especially stunning at sunset, when the city glows in golden light.
Picture

2. Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcãntara

Set high on a panoramic garden, Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcãntara is one of the best lookout points in Lisbon.

Greek busts and ornate fountains give the place a lofty regal feel and it has sweeping views across Lisbon and the Tagus River. There are plenty of places at the top to grab a drink and take in the view.

The best way to get to the viewpoint is via the Elevador de Glória, a funicular that trudges up the hill from Rossio. The area is well known as the center of Lisbon’s street art scene, with the tram itself covered in graffiti.
Picture

3. Miradouro da Graça

Located near the Igreja da Graça, this miradouro is a local favorite. It offers a wide-angle view of Lisbon's rooftops, with the São Jorge Castle prominently in the foreground. Grab a drink from the kiosk café and soak in the laid-back vibe.
Picture

4. Miradouro das Portas do Sol

This postcard-perfect viewpoint in the heart of Alfama provides a breathtaking panorama of the red-tiled rooftops and the glimmering Tagus River. It’s a popular stop for photographers—and for good reason.
Picture

5. Miradouro de Santa Luzia

Just steps away from Portas do Sol, this romantic viewpoint is adorned with azulejos (Portuguese tiles) and climbing bougainvillea. The terrace overlooks Alfama and the river, offering a charming and intimate perspective of the city.
Picture

6. Miradouro da Nossa Senhora do Monte

Also in the Graça neighborhood, this peaceful spot offers panoramic views similar to Senhora do Monte, but with fewer crowds. It's a perfect place to reflect, rest, and enjoy a quiet moment.
Picture

7. Miradouro do Castelo de São Jorge

Located inside the grounds of the iconic castle, this viewpoint rewards visitors with dramatic views of the city and the river. It’s a great spot to combine sightseeing with cityscapes.
Picture

8. Miradouro do Arco da Rua Augusta

For a more architectural experience, climb to the top of the triumphal arch in Baixa. The rooftop provides a unique bird’s-eye view of Rua Augusta, Praça do Comércio, and the waterfront.
Picture

9. Miradouro da Penha de França

If you're looking to escape the crowds, head to this lesser-known viewpoint in a more residential neighborhood. It's an off-the-beaten-path gem with an authentic Lisbon feel.
Picture

10. Miradouro do Parque Eduardo VII

At the top of this sprawling central park, you'll find a viewpoint with an impressive view stretching down to Marquês de Pombal Square, through Avenida da Liberdade, all the way to the Tagus River. It’s especially beautiful in spring when the gardens and jacarandas are in bloom.
Picture

11. Amoreiras 360° Panoramic View

Located atop the Amoreiras Shopping Center, Amoreiras 360° offers one of the most complete panoramic experiences in Lisbon. From 174 meters high, this rooftop terrace provides an unobstructed 360-degree view of the entire city—including the seven hills, both iconic bridges, the castle, Belém Tower, Cristo Rei, and even the mountains of Sintra on clear days.
Picture
Entry fee: Around €5 (discounts for kids and seniors)
Accessibility: Elevator access from the mall’s 2nd floor (near Zara Home); tickets sold on the 1st floor or online
Amenities: Free viewing scopes and informative panels identify major landmarks
Best time to go: Late afternoon or at sunset for optimal light and fewer crowds

Pro tip: This viewpoint is perfect for a rainy day backup—enjoy shopping and dining, then head up if the sky clears!

Tips for Visiting Lisbon's Viewpoints

Go early or late: Midday light can be harsh. Mornings and sunsets are best for photos and comfort.

Wear comfy shoes: Lisbon’s hills and cobblestones make for a scenic but leg-burning combination.

Mix famous and hidden gems: Pair classics like Portas do Sol with quieter miradouros like Penha de França or Amoreiras 360°.

Take your time: Don’t rush from viewpoint to viewpoint. Each one offers a different mood and story.

Exploring Lisbon Through Its Viewpoints

Each miradouro offers a different angle on the city—literally and figuratively. From the romantic charm of Alfama to the modern sprawl visible from Eduardo VII Park, these viewpoints help tell Lisbon’s story one scenic overlook at a time.

Most of these miradouros are easily accessible by foot, tram, or bus, making them an easy addition to your day’s adventures. Pack a water bottle, bring your camera, and take your time soaking in the beauty of Lisbon from above.

Because when in Lisbon, the best way to understand the city… is to look at it from the top.

Happy Father's Day: Celebrating the Men Who Help Shape Our Lives

6/21/2026

Father's Day is a special time to celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, mentors, and father figures who have helped shape our lives through their love, guidance, and support.
Picture
Whether it's teaching us how to ride a bike, helping with homework, offering advice during difficult times, or simply being there when we need them most, fathers often leave a lasting impact in ways both big and small.

For many of us, some of our fondest memories involve spending time with our dads. Maybe it was fishing on a quiet lake, working on a project in the garage, attending a sporting event, taking a family vacation, or sharing stories around the dinner table. These moments become treasured memories that stay with us throughout our lives.

Fatherhood has changed over the years, but one thing remains constant: the important role fathers play in providing encouragement, stability, and unconditional love. Today's dads often wear many hats—teacher, coach, chauffeur, handyman, problem-solver, and sometimes even comedian. Through it all, they continue to support their families in countless ways.

Father's Day is also an opportunity to recognize the many men who may not be biological fathers but have stepped into the role of mentor, guardian, coach, uncle, grandfather, or family friend. Their influence and guidance can be just as meaningful and life-changing.
For those fortunate enough to still have their fathers with them, today is a wonderful reminder to pick up the phone, schedule a visit, share a meal, or simply say "thank you." Sometimes the simplest words mean the most.

For those whose fathers have passed on, Father's Day can be a time of reflection and remembrance. It offers an opportunity to honor their legacy, revisit cherished memories, and celebrate the lessons they passed down through the years.

No matter how you choose to celebrate, Father's Day reminds us to pause and appreciate the men who have helped guide us on our journey through life.

To all the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures everywhere, thank you for your love, sacrifice, wisdom, and dedication.
Happy Father's Day!
May your day be filled with love, laughter, appreciation, and the company of those who matter most.

If there were ever a fruit that tastes like sunshine, it would be the pineapple. Juicy, sweet, refreshing, and bursting with tropical flavor, pineapples have been a favorite around the world for centuries. National Pineapple Day, celebrated each June, is the perfect excuse to enjoy this delicious fruit and experiment with new recipes featuring its unique flavor.
Originally native to South America, pineapples became a symbol of hospitality and welcome during the colonial era. Their distinctive appearance and sweet taste quickly made them a prized fruit throughout Europe and North America. Today, pineapples are enjoyed fresh, grilled, blended into smoothies, baked into desserts, and added to both sweet and savory dishes.
My pineapple designs are available on a variety of products in my RedBubble store. Just click on the photo to be taken to that sales page. I appreciate your support!

Beyond their delicious flavor, pineapples offer an impressive list of health benefits. They are rich in vitamin C, manganese, antioxidants, and fiber. Pineapples also contain bromelain, a natural enzyme that may help support digestion and reduce inflammation.

One of the things I love most about pineapples is their versatility. They can be the star ingredient in a refreshing summer drink, add a tropical twist to salads, or bring natural sweetness to desserts. Whether you're enjoying pineapple on its own or incorporating it into your favorite recipes, this fruit has a way of making any dish feel a little more like a vacation.

Fun Pineapple Facts

  • Pineapples are actually made up of hundreds of individual berries that fuse together around a central core.
  • It takes approximately 18 to 24 months for a single pineapple to grow and mature.
  • Pineapples do not continue to ripen after they are harvested.
  • The fruit was once considered such a luxury that people would rent pineapples as table decorations for special events.
  • Hawaii was once the world's largest producer of pineapples, although most commercial production now comes from countries such as Costa Rica, the Philippines, and Thailand.

How to Pick a Good Pineapple

When shopping for a pineapple, look for one that feels heavy for its size and has a fresh, sweet aroma at the base. The exterior should be golden-yellow rather than completely green, and the leaves should appear healthy and vibrant.
Picture

Celebrate with Pineapple

Whether you're sipping a pineapple smoothie on a warm afternoon, serving pineapple salsa at a backyard gathering, or enjoying a slice of fresh pineapple after dinner, National Pineapple Day is a wonderful reminder to enjoy one of nature's sweetest tropical treats.
So grab a pineapple, try a new recipe, and bring a little taste of the tropics to your table. Happy National Pineapple Day!

Tea itself has a rich history dating back thousands of years, but iced tea became especially popular in the United States during the early 1900s. One famous story traces its rise to the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis, where a tea merchant reportedly served chilled tea over ice to help visitors beat the summer heat. The refreshing drink was an instant hit and quickly became a beloved American tradition.

Today, iced tea comes in countless varieties—from classic sweet tea to fruit-infused blends bursting with flavor. In honor of National Iced Tea Day, why not skip the store-bought versions and make your own at home
