This one is actually gluten free, so I could eat it. And it is so good.
I love trying new foods, especially when I travel. At the end of each year, I try to do a blog post detailing what I ate and where. This is that post. I hope you enjoy it. Tomar, Portugal Jackfruit Sandwich I actually wrote about this BBQ Jackfruit sandwich in this post. It was so good, I had to try to recreate this recipe at home. You can see my recipe here. Hong Kong Grilled Oysters Shark Fin Soup Shark fin soup is a traditional Chinese dish that is considered a delicacy. Lisbon, Portugal Bolo de Mel Bolo de mel is the oldest Madeiran cake dating from the 15th century. The cake often has walnuts and almonds mixed within it. Clove, cinnamon, black pepper, anise seeds and allspice are popular spices used in the preparation. This one is actually gluten free, so I could eat it. And it is so good. Passion Kiwi Tastes like a golden kiwi fruit (my fav) but with a distinctive red flesh inside, visually resembling the appearance of a passion fruit. Madeira Island, Portugal Black scabbardfish with Banana and Maracujá (passion fruit) sauce Black scabbardfish is a very common delicacy in the Madeira archipelago. It lives in the Atlantic Ocean at depths ranging between 200 and 1700 meters. In Madeira, one of the main places where it is very common for fishermen to dedicate themselves to their catch is in Câmara de Lobos. Monstera Deliciosa This exotic fruit tastes like banana (texture wise) and pineapple (taste). I did a blog post about this fruit because it can also be a bit dangerous if not eaten properly. Red Flesh Dragon fruit This one was a bit sweeter than the white fleshed dragon fruit, but not really that much. Yellow Skinned Dragon fruit The yellow skinned Dragonfruit also has white flesh but it is the sweetest and most flavorful, in my opinion. Venice, Italy Black Ink Squid Pasta A friend recommended I try this Italian coastal recipe while I was visiting Venice in July. It was so good, I had it twice. Even more fun, it turns your mouth and teeth black ... but not permanently. It disappears pretty quickly once you drink water or brush your teeth. Vila Nova de Milfontes, Portugal Cataplana (this is usually a meal to be shared with two people) Nepalese Food Check out the foods I tried in 2022. Although I tried some new foods in 2023, somehow I neglected to do a post about it. Recommended Posts

It's the final week (actually the final couple of days) of 2024 and here's photos of my restaurant meals that stood out this year and where to get them. BBQ Jackfruit Sandwich BBQ Jackfruit Sandwich from Insensato Cafe-livraria in Tomar, Portugal. I loved this one so much I had to re-create it at home. You can find my recipe here. Black Scabbardfish with Banana and Maracujá (passion fruit) Sauce Black scabbardfish with Banana and Maracujá (passion fruit) sauce from Alto Monte in Madeira Island, Portugal. Avocado Burger This Avocado Burger is from Veggiezz in Vienna, Austria. Pea Mash with Figs, Cauliflower Steak and Truffle Sweet Potato Fries I had this lovely meal of Flame Grilled Cauliflower Steak with Pea Mash and Caramelized Figs with a side of Sweet Potato Fries with Truffle Mayo at the DO & CO Albertina, the restaurant located in the Albertina Museum in Vienna, Ausutria Gluten Free Vegan Mac & Cheese Gluten Free Vegan Mac & Cheese from Charlie's Crew in Paris, France. My friend and I went to this lovely cafe three times during the week we visited back in June. I had this dish twice (it was so good!) and then had Baked Shakshouka the other time. It was also delicious! Cataplana Cataplana is a Portuguese word that refers to both a cooking vessel and a seafood stew. I was introduced to Cataplan by my friends when I visited them in Vila Nova de Milfontes. Black Ink Squid Pasta (Spaghetti al nero di seppia) A friend of mine really loves this dish, so when she found out I would be going to Venice, where this recipe is one of the most common recipes of the Italian coastal regions, she told me I had to try it. It was so good, I had it twice while we were there. Brunch Do Notre While visiting Porto with some friends, we decided to try Do Norte Cafe by Hungry Biker. The cafe, located at Rua do Almada, 57, Porto, is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. They don't accept reservations and we know it is quite popular brunch spot, so we decided to go at 1 p.m. Even then we still had to wait about 20 minutes before we were seated. I had the Brunch Do Norte with Gluten Free bread. The food was amazing so we decided to go back the next day for brunch again. Port Wine French Toast (Gluten Free) Cauliflower Steak Another visit to Porto (with another set of friends), we went to Mercado Balhao. Upstairs there's several restaurants and we ate at Casa Vegetariana. The roasted cauliflower steak was delicious! Steak on a Stone While visiting Albufeira, we went to El Rancho on Fisherman Beach. One of the house specialities is Steak on a Stone, a Portuguese dish where a raw New York Strip steak is served on a hot granite slab and cooked at the table. Grilled Eggplant Parmesan with Balsamic Reduction While we were visiting Albufeira, we took a day trip to Faro. When it was time to eat, we meandered until we found Restaurante Sol E Jardim. The restaurant is huge and we got there before it was too crowded but the service was a bit slow. But the food was worth it. What have been your favorite restaurant meals this year (or ever)? The holidays are a time for great joy for some, and a time of stress for others. Here are some ways to bust the stress. **This post may contain affiliate links. I receive a small amount of compensation when you purchase from my links which help to keep this blog running.** Get enough sleep. With all there is to do during the holidays, it is easy to pay for the additional time required by sleeping less. The problem for many is that when they don’t get enough sleep, they get cranky and don’t enjoy what they are doing as much. So take the time for adequate sleep. That way you will have the energy to get into the full swing of things and enjoy it as it happens. Plan ahead. We know well in advance that the holidays will require a lot more of our time for special preparations in addition to our regular routines and responsibilities. The solution is to plan ahead and schedule these tasks and events with greater care. If you didn’t plan accordingly this year you may want to delegate. Delegate. There is a lot of difference between “I do it” and “It gets done.” Sure it’s fun to “do it all,” but that may be an impractical goal that only serves to frazzle and stress you out. Share the shopping, cooking and cleaning with others. People generally appreciate the opportunity to participate in the preparations. Recommended Products: These products featuring my designs are available on a variety of products and colors. Just click on the photo to be taken to my Amazon or RedBubble Store to purchase. Meditate. Research by Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn shows how chronic stress directly interferes with the ability of our cells to renew tissues in the body which is linked to accelerated aging and other nasty diseases. Meditation actually helps to reduce stress and it effects on the body. You don’t have to do it for hours. Just get into a calm, relaxing mode for just a few minutes. It helps! Get a massage. When you don’t have the time for a massage is when you need it the most Enjoy the journey. Don’t “dread” any part of it, the shopping, the wrapping, the cooking, the cleaning. Find happiness in all of it and you will be less stressed. Have any other stress busters to share? Post them in the comments. Recommended Posts
