A Glimpse into History

The area now known as Glacier National Park was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, notably the Blackfeet in the east and the Flathead in the west. As European explorers arrived, the region's unparalleled beauty garnered attention, leading conservationists like George Bird Grinnell to advocate for its protection. Their efforts culminated in President William Howard Taft signing the bill that established the park in 1910. In 1932, Glacier National Park and Canada's Waterton Lakes National Park united to form the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, symbolizing the friendship between the two nations.
