Consider staying at the Montebelo Alcobaça Historic Hotel, located within the monastery complex, offering a unique blend of history and comfort.

Blackberry Reduction
​
Cook together:

• 1½ cups fresh blackberries
• over medium heat until they break down.
  Press through a fine sieve to remove the seeds.
  Return the juice to the saucepan and simmer until reduced to ¼ cup.
  Cool completely before adding to the buttercream.

Buttercream Directions

1. Beat the butter alone for 5 minutes until very pale and fluffy.
2. Beat in the vanilla and salt.
3. Add half the powdered sugar.
4. Mix in the cooled blackberry reduction.
5. Add the remaining powdered sugar.
6. Beat another 4–5 minutes until light and fluffy.
7. Fold or beat in the finely minced mint.
8. Add a tablespoon of cream if needed for piping consistency. 

When cupcakes are cooled, pipe a generous swirl of buttercream onto each cooled cupcake. Top with a fresh mint leaf.

Perched on one of Lisbon’s highest hills, this viewpoint offers arguably the best panoramic view in the city. From here, you can see everything from the Castle of São Jorge to the 25 de Abril Bridge. It’s especially stunning at sunset, when the city glows in golden light.

Set high on a panoramic garden, Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcãntara is one of the best lookout points in Lisbon.

Greek busts and ornate fountains give the place a lofty regal feel and it has sweeping views across Lisbon and the Tagus River. There are plenty of places at the top to grab a drink and take in the view. 

​The best way to get to the viewpoint is via the Elevador de Glória, a funicular that trudges up the hill from Rossio. The area is well known as the center of Lisbon’s street art scene, with the tram itself covered in graffiti.

​Located near the Igreja da Graça, this miradouro is a local favorite. It offers a wide-angle view of Lisbon's rooftops, with the São Jorge Castle prominently in the foreground. Grab a drink from the kiosk café and soak in the laid-back vibe.

​This postcard-perfect viewpoint in the heart of Alfama provides a breathtaking panorama of the red-tiled rooftops and the glimmering Tagus River. It’s a popular stop for photographers—and for good reason.

​Just steps away from Portas do Sol, this romantic viewpoint is adorned with azulejos (Portuguese tiles) and climbing bougainvillea. The terrace overlooks Alfama and the river, offering a charming and intimate perspective of the city.

​Also in the Graça neighborhood, this peaceful spot offers panoramic views similar to Senhora do Monte, but with fewer crowds. It's a perfect place to reflect, rest, and enjoy a quiet moment.

​Located inside the grounds of the iconic castle, this viewpoint rewards visitors with dramatic views of the city and the river. It’s a great spot to combine sightseeing with cityscapes.

​For a more architectural experience, climb to the top of the triumphal arch in Baixa. The rooftop provides a unique bird’s-eye view of Rua Augusta, Praça do Comércio, and the waterfront.

​If you're looking to escape the crowds, head to this lesser-known viewpoint in a more residential neighborhood. It's an off-the-beaten-path gem with an authentic Lisbon feel.

At the top of this sprawling central park, you'll find a viewpoint with an impressive view stretching down to Marquês de Pombal Square, through Avenida da Liberdade, all the way to the Tagus River. It’s especially beautiful in spring when the gardens and jacarandas are in bloom.

​Located atop the Amoreiras Shopping Center, Amoreiras 360° offers one of the most complete panoramic experiences in Lisbon. From 174 meters high, this rooftop terrace provides an unobstructed 360-degree view of the entire city—including the seven hills, both iconic bridges, the castle, Belém Tower, Cristo Rei, and even the mountains of Sintra on clear days.

​Entry fee: Around €5 (discounts for kids and seniors)
Accessibility: Elevator access from the mall’s 2nd floor (near Zara Home); tickets sold on the 1st floor or online
Amenities: Free viewing scopes and informative panels identify major landmarks
Best time to go: Late afternoon or at sunset for optimal light and fewer crowds

Pro tip: This viewpoint is perfect for a rainy day backup—enjoy shopping and dining, then head up if the sky clears!

​Go early or late: Midday light can be harsh. Mornings and sunsets are best for photos and comfort.

Wear comfy shoes: Lisbon’s hills and cobblestones make for a scenic but leg-burning combination.

Mix famous and hidden gems: Pair classics like Portas do Sol with quieter miradouros like Penha de França or Amoreiras 360°.

Take your time: Don’t rush from viewpoint to viewpoint. Each one offers a different mood and story.

Each miradouro offers a different angle on the city—literally and figuratively. From the romantic charm of Alfama to the modern sprawl visible from Eduardo VII Park, these viewpoints help tell Lisbon’s story one scenic overlook at a time.

Most of these miradouros are easily accessible by foot, tram, or bus, making them an easy addition to your day’s adventures. Pack a water bottle, bring your camera, and take your time soaking in the beauty of Lisbon from above.

Because when in Lisbon, the best way to understand the city… is to look at it from the top.

Whether it's teaching us how to ride a bike, helping with homework, offering advice during difficult times, or simply being there when we need them most, fathers often leave a lasting impact in ways both big and small.

For many of us, some of our fondest memories involve spending time with our dads. Maybe it was fishing on a quiet lake, working on a project in the garage, attending a sporting event, taking a family vacation, or sharing stories around the dinner table. These moments become treasured memories that stay with us throughout our lives.

Fatherhood has changed over the years, but one thing remains constant: the important role fathers play in providing encouragement, stability, and unconditional love. Today's dads often wear many hats—teacher, coach, chauffeur, handyman, problem-solver, and sometimes even comedian. Through it all, they continue to support their families in countless ways.

Father's Day is also an opportunity to recognize the many men who may not be biological fathers but have stepped into the role of mentor, guardian, coach, uncle, grandfather, or family friend. Their influence and guidance can be just as meaningful and life-changing.
For those fortunate enough to still have their fathers with them, today is a wonderful reminder to pick up the phone, schedule a visit, share a meal, or simply say "thank you." Sometimes the simplest words mean the most.
