The Santa Justa Lift in Lisbon, Portugal is a must-see attraction for all visitors to the city. It's a unique and iconic structure that stands out in the skyline and offers an amazing view of the city from its top.
The Santa Justa Lift was built in 1902 and is one of the oldest elevators in Europe. It's a great way to explore Lisbon as it takes you up to Carmo Square, where you can enjoy stunning views of the city. From there, you can visit other attractions such as the National Pantheon or explore some of Lisbon's narrow streets.
Visiting this elevator is one of the best things to do while in Lisbon and should not be missed by anyone visiting this beautiful city!

The lift only holds around 20 people and requires 10 minutes rest between trips. Unfortunately, it's one of the best things to do in Lisbon so the line can be quite long at times.
The first time I rode the Santa Justa Lift in November 2021 (when I was on my exploratory trip here to see if I wanted to move to Portugal), the queue was fairly short and we only waited around twenty minutes.
I paid around €5.30 directly to the operator on entry to the lift (without a Lisboa Card) that included an ascent, descent and up to the terrace reached by a staircase after embarking (turn immediately left on exiting the lift). If you're using a Lisboa Card, the card only covers you for the ascent and descent, and the terrace is a further €1.50 paid on entry to the barrier.

Pro Tip: Don't wait in line at the bottom of the lift. Instead, make your way to Carmo Convento (which is worth a visit in itself) and go to the top and you can ride the lift down. It's the same experience, but hardly ever a line.
