Exploring the Castle
The Castle and adjacent Convent of Christ, with its impressive architecture and rich history, is the primary attraction in Tomar.
In addition to the castle, Tomar itself is a charming town with narrow, winding streets, beautiful churches (Convento de Cristo, Igreja de Santa Maria dos Olivais, and Igreja de São João Baptista) and a tranquil ambiance. The town's rich history and well-preserved architecture make it a delightful place to wander and immerse oneself in its medieval atmosphere.
When planning a visit to Tomar and the castle, it's advisable to wear shoes with good tracking as the ground is unstable and the road leading up to the castle is quite steep and made of calçadas (beautiful but very impractical and dangerous in my humble opinion).
